Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Sayrols.
Luis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Starting 2018, I decided, I wanted to mass produce something natural and low calorie, and thought of a few products, one of them was a very traditional treat… meringues. But in order to do it natural and low in calories, I ask a friend of mine (Sergio Zepeda) to help me with the recipe, which he did. Once I had the recipe, I then sat down with another old friend (Sergio Ramos) and asked him if he would like to help me develop de concept and he liked the idea and jumped into the project.
In March 2018, we started working on the business plan at the Public Library three time per week. Three months later, the world cup started, and we went from the library to a restaurant in order to work and watch most of the matches. By September, we began buying for the equipment we needed in order to put in place the facility, we had so much problems looking for what we needed as a warehouse/production plant. It was November and we had already some equipment and seven huge ovens on their way and we had no yet a place to put them!!!
We found the perfect place thanks to two good friends (David Matos and Jason Saunders) that helped us on that issue. Since November to March 2019, we received all the equipment, hired the installation and took care of all the permits. On March 2019, we hired all the employees and started training, perfecting recipes and finally production.
On June and July, we were one of the 20 winners for H-E-B Quest for Texas Best and today we are a few steps away for being inside H-E-B, Buc-ee´s, Costco, Walmart, Wegmans, Hy-Bee, Pruetts Food, Publix, CVS and Walgreens, City Club(Soriana Mexico). Today, we proudly produce a one calorie meringue bite we call “TIDBITS Fun Bites” sugar-free, gluten-free, lactose-free, soy-free, cholesterol-free, non-GMO, kosher certified. They come in seven different flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cappuccino, Mint Chocolate, Cookies and Cream and Natural.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not a smooth road at all!! Being a startup a lot of doors are immediately closed. Even though all the equipment was payed out of pocket, no one wants to finance with the equipment as guarantee. Finding a warehouse as startup is almost impossible. We found the right landlords. We had so many hurdles along the road, and Literally, with God´s help, either we found a way to solve it or miraculously the answer was given.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Santte Foods – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We have put a state of the art facility with limited resources. Ever since we started, we promised ourselves that we were going to do things much better than what compliance told us to, and it has been like that ever since. So we are very proud every time a potential client comes in and sees what has been done. We produce a one calorie meringue bite, sugar-free, gluten-free, lactose-free, soy-free, cholesterol-free, non-GMO, kosher certified, natural colors and flavors. We strive in creating the best snack there is because it can be eaten by all ages, from a child to an elderly person, people who cares about his weight and what they eat, without ever feeling guilt, our slogan FEEL NO GUILT. 40 of our TIDBITS have the same calorie content of a single Oreo cookie. 200 of our TIDBITS have the same calorie content of a doughnut,
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are very excited for what the future will bring! We are very much looking forward to that! We are almost ready to launch three new flavors. We will be launching the other lines of product (in the natural area) that are in the to do list, people will go crazy!!
