Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanne Tang.

Joanne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My parents used to own a hair salon in Vietnam and I’ve helped them out during my teenage years. After that, I took over the business and gained more experiences. After several years of working, I learn to appreciate and enjoy my career even more. I started my career as a nail technician when I came to America in 1998 and have opened multiple shops in the Houston area. Nails by Yen is my latest business and I look forward to expanding it more in the future.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Like anything in life, there will always be obstacles to conquer. One struggle that I encounter is that my business is a competitive industry. It’s difficult to raise the prices and not lose customers. Supplies cost have gone up and the job can be very demanding, but in order to beat our competitors we try to retain the prices. However, we always strive to provide the best services because we know quality can’t be compromised.

Nails by Yen is a full-service beauty salon dedicated to consistently providing high customer satisfaction by rendering excellent service, quality products, and furnishing an enjoyable atmosphere. We also maintain a friendly, fair, and creative work environment, which respects diversity, ideas, and hard work.

We provide all kind of nail services, facial, and wax. We specialized in NexGen, a safe and healthy alternative to acrylic nails: One that would add length, protection and shine, without the damage that acrylics can cause. I’m proud that my business is well-established for over 20 years. Most of our customers have been with us for over 20 years and we’re thankful that they’ve recommenced our business to others. Word of mouth is the best advertising so we really appreciate everyone who have supported us in the past and still do so now.

What sets us apart from others is that we have a great support system and management. Also, we provide complimentary drinks such as sodas, water, and wine for our customers so they can feel pamper while getting their nails done. We also provide free Wi-Fi so customers can surf the web while waiting for their services. We offer 5% off of the total for cash payment. On Monday and Tuesday, we provide the following discounts:

$3 off Pedicure
$2 off Manicure
$2 off Refill

We’re now an approved retailer to sell Circle E Candles, which is well-known for the longest-burning and most delightfully fragrant candles on the market.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan to renovate the business because we are growing rapidly. Details are still in the works, but expansion is one idea.
